This fiercely contested competition promises an unforgettable experience for both participants and spectators. Winning team will win $500 towards a charity of their choice.

Competition Highlights

The Tug O’ War, rooted in centuries-old tradition, showcases the raw athleticism and camaraderie of its participants. Originating as a rural pastime in England and Scotland, this historic contest sees two teams at opposite ends of a rope, each striving to drag the other across a centerline.

Equipment

Participants must use the provided tug ropes, which shall be inspected by event officials prior to the start of each match. Spikes, cleats, and gloves are not allowed. Participants are not allowed to use their own ropes or any other equipment during the event.

Winning Criteria

Matches shall be conducted in a single-elimination format. Teams will compete head-to-head, with the winner advancing to the next round.

Registration & Participation Fee

Participation Fee: $100 per team, which includes free admission to the Sherwood Park Highland Gathering for each team mate & one coach.

Rules & Regulations

Weigh-In: All teams must report in at the Information Tent for weigh-in one hour prior to the event.
Winning Criteria: The team that successfully pulls the opposing team across the center line shall be declared the winner of the match. If neither team is able to pull the other across the center line within a reasonable time frame, the match may be declared a draw or may be decided by the event officials.
Conduct:
- Side swaying of the rope is prohibited.
- No part of any puller’s body, except their feet, may touch the ground. The anchor can touch the ground occasionally for balance.
- Each team is allowed one coach and one water person.
- Teams must stay within designated lines; failure to do so will result in disqualification.
